NaNoWriMo 2016: The Power of Sprinting.

NaNoWriMo update time!

So yesterday I was dying a little bit at NaNoWriMo, and couldn’t see myself catching up: I had a good 5000 words to write in one day.

However, I did a few sprints and managed to catch up so much more quickly! I now only have 50 words to go until I reach today’s target of 11,666 words. (I stopped myself from writing that last 50 so that I would still have to write something today, and hopefully stay ahead.)

I’m going to do my best to do some sprints today at lunchtime and am spending tonight at my partner’s mum’s waiting for The Walking Dead to come on, so I have no excuse not to sit and write all evening since I really don’t care what happens in The Walking Dead since I don’t have a clue what’s going on in that show.

Flailing at NaNoWriMo.

Here’s a quick update on how I’m doing with NaNoWriMo 2016:

I put ‘flailing’ rather than ‘failing’ because, however much it feels like it, I haven’t failed yet! We are only in the first week and even though it looks kind of bleak, I know that there’s still plenty of time for me to get my mojo back.

My novel is going along at a snail’s pace but it is still going along and I won’t be giving up. However, I had a panic earlier when I realised that I feel like I’ve used up most of my plot ideas already and haven’t even reached 7000 words yet!

NaNoWriMo Tips.

It’s Day 2 of NaNoWriMo!

I’m on target but only just – it was a bit of a struggle to reach my words this evening. (I kept being distracted by YouTube. Darn you, YouTube.)

This is my fifth year doing NaNoWriMo, and there’s only one year that I didn’t make it to 50,000 words, so I feel fairly qualified to share some tips.

I’ll briefly explain what NaNoWriMo is: it’s short for National Novel Writing Month and is an online event that takes place every November, where people aim to write 50,000 words, usually of a novel, in 30 days. Click here if you’d like to know more.

It’s not a case of not having time – MAKE time.

This Thing I’m Writing.

Slightly different post today, though still book-related – just not a published book! I wanted to post the first properly edited part of the children’s/YA adventure book I’m currently working on. I’m still working out some kinks but hoped that you guys might like to have a read and give me some advice. I’m not afraid of criticism, so don’t hold back!

Also, I’d like to see if this makes people want to read on and find out what happens next, so I decided against a plot summary on here.
