I was tagged for this a looooong time ago by the lovely Orangutan Librarian here on WordPress. I take my sweet time getting around to tags, that’s just how I roll.
Confession time: I have never seen Back to the Future. *Ducks*
I looked at these questions and had a strong feeling of deja vu, but I searched my blog and it doesn’t look as though I’ve already done the tag. If I have, then… here it is again?
Question 1: Name a movie/book/show that makes you want to go back in time when you were younger and enjoy it all over again.
Movie: Probably Labyrinth. I still think it’s brilliant but I’d love to watch it for the first time again. I know it a little bit too well now – there are no surprises at all.
Book: Very unoriginally, I would love to go back in time and discover Harry Potter for the first time all over again. I don’t think there’s much more I need to explain about that.
TV Show: Ah, Pokemon! And Digimon! But only the first series. I wish the first series of Digimon would come to Netflix.
Question 2: What’s your favorite scifi and or fantasy book/show/movie?
Book: Well, I can’t use Harry Potter twice in one tag, so I’ll say The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. This is a fantastic book that doesn’t get talked about enough. It’s about a young boy named David whose mother has recently died, and his father has remarried and had a new son. David struggles with his grief and his dislike for his father’s newfound family, and is coaxed into a fantasy world by his dead mother’s voice and the Crooked Man, an evil Rumplestiltskin-type character who wants to convince David to hand over his new baby brother. It sounds like a children’s book but it isn’t – it’s actually very adult, and one of the best standalone novels I’ve ever read.
TV Show: Without a doubt, my favourite scifi / fantasy TV show will always be Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (If you’re also a Buffy fan, you might be interested in clicking here to read my top 10 episodes.) When I was younger I watched things like Charmed and Doctor Who, but Buffy is the only fantasy TV show I’m bothered about now, apart from Game of Thrones and Rick and Morty, which I’ll talk about in another question later…
Movie: Oh god, it’s got to be What We Do in the Shadows. If you haven’t seen it, PLEASE go watch it now. Just stop what you’re doing and watch it. It’s on Netflix. It’s so funny. Watch it. Please. Please.
Question 3: What’s a moment in a book that takes place in the past or future that you’d like to visit?
If you haven’t seen What We Do in the Shadows and you’re still reading this blog post, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Go watch it now!
If you’ve watched it, then my answer to this question is… well, it’s Hogwarts, obviously. Gah, I hate using Harry Potter for my answers, but most of the novels I read take place in real-life locations, or they’re fictional places but they’re in a dystopian future so… I don’t really want to visit.
I suppose I’d love to visit the OASIS in Ready Player One, but only if it wasn’t corporation-owned.
Question 4: What’s a fictional store, cafe, etc. in a book/show/movie you’d like to visit?
Book: Obviously it’s not a fictional store, but I’d love to visit Barney’s and get a personal shopper experience from Becky Bloomwood of the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. I feel like she’d know exactly how to dress me.
TV Show: I’d like to visit Black Books, from the TV show Black Books. Although Bernard Black has terrible customer service skills, I’d like to go and poke around his shop anyway. Books are piled on top of each other all over the place, and it looks like a secondhand bookshop too, which is always nice price-wise.
Movie: If I get married, I want to go for a dress fitting at the shop Helen takes the girls to in Bridesmaids. I probably wouldn’t go to that Brazilian restaurant beforehand, though.
Question 5: Name an automobile or way of travel in a book/show/movie that you’d like to take for a ride. What book/show/movie is it from?
Book: I would like to gently fall down the rabbit hole like Alice does. I’m always freaked out if I’m somewhere high up, so it would be nice to know I could just float down the way she does, possibly reading a book on the way.
TV Show: In Sex and the City, Carrie gets taxis everywhere, despite the fact that she apparently has very little money. (She also manages to buy designer clothes and shoes, enough to wear a different outfit every day of the month, it seems, on that same tiny wage.) I want some of that apparently free taxi action.
Movie: I want to fly on Dumbo’s back! And still be able to fall like Alice if I get knocked off.
(It was so hard not to mention Apparition for that question.)
Question 6: Favourite fictional scientist?
Rick from Rick and Morty, hands down! My boyfriend started watching this show and I really hated it at first. I mean, I REALLY hated it. In the first few episodes Rick has this habit of saying ‘Morty’ after every other sentence, and I hated it so much I developed this twitch whenever he said it. I’m not sure what changed my mind, but gradually I started sneakily watching over Jack’s shoulder. I would be like, ‘This is shit’ and then I’d be like, ‘…Put the next episode on.’
