Oh my god, guys, this has to be the best readathon ever – The Pokemon Indigo League #ReadThemAllThon created by Aentee at Read at Midnight.
The idea of the readathon is to treat each book you read between 14th Aug and 4th Sept as a gym that you have to battle. You win CP points by doing certain activities, such as beating a gym (i.e. finishing a book), evolving your pokemon or by reading a certain number of pages (1CP every 10 pages, i.e. 10CP every 100 pages).
For a full list of how you can earn extra CP during the ReadThemAllThon, go take a look at Aentee’s post here where she outlines how to excel at this brilliantly imaginative challenge.
But first, I need to choose my Pokemon!
I want one that has 3 stages of evolution, so I can earn a bit more CP in the long-run (‘cos I wanna be the very best like no one ever was) so…
Yup, I was completely unoriginal and went for a literal starter pokemon. But Bulbasaur’s always served me well in the past, plus look how cute he is!
Your starter pokemon has 10CP to begin with, and evolves when you reach 150CP and will evolve again at 400CP. You also earn 50CP each time it evolves. (For non-evolving / 2-stage pokemon, go take a look at Aentee’s post.)
I feel like the maths is going to baffle me by, like, the third day.
But anyway, on to my TBR!
1. PEWTER CITY (BOULDER BADGE) – The first book in a series.
I don’t have any unread first-in-a-series books on my shelves, so I’ll have to buy a new one for this challenge. I’m thinking about finally giving Throne of Glass a go, seeing as everyone raves about it. Shall I join the Sarah J. Maas crowd?
2. CERULEAN CITY (CASCADE BADGE) – A book that might make you cry.
Considering how much I usually cry at books, I’ve been a bit cold-hearted lately. I don’t think I’ve got any potential tearjerkers on my shelves at the moment, so I might buy Marley and Me if I can pick it up cheap somewhere.
3. VERMILLION CITY (THUNDER BADGE) – A book with thunderous hype.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, obviously! I’m seeing the show at the end of August so will have to read it after that as I don’t want to be spoilt.
4. CELADON CITY (RAINBOW BADGE) – A book that focuses on diversity.
I’ve been meaning to reread White Teeth by Zadie Smith for ages so may do that instead of buying a new novel – plus it’s long so lots of potential for CP! If I do decide to read something new, I might go for She Wore Red Trainers by Na’ima B. Robert.
5. FUSCHIA CITY (SOUL BADGE) – A book with a great romance.
Let’s give this one another go: Wuthering Heights.
6. SAFFRON CITY (MARSH BADGE) – A book with fantasy/supernatural elements.
I’ll try to finish The Boy Who Could See Demons, since I hate abandoning books. Not much CP potential though L
7. CINNABAR ISLAND (VOLCANO BADGE) – A book with a red cover.
I was going to use this as an excuse to finally buy Simon VS The Homosapiens’ Agenda, but seeing as The Secrets We Keep by Jonathan Harvey has been sitting on my shelf untouched since March, I should probably read that instead.
8. VIRIDIAN TOWN (EARTH BADGE) – A book with a post-apocalyptic setting.
Not sure on this one. I might see if I can borrow Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood from my friend (Googled post-apocalyptic books and that one came up).
I won’t be doing the gyms in order (and, knowing me, I’ll probably just read random books instead) because I’m going to have to wait til payday to pick up a lot of them. But I’m really, really excited to become a Pokemon/Readathon master!!!
