I finished another book last night!
I finally decided to pick up The Grownup by Gilliam Glynn, and it’s super short so I read it in one sitting. That’s the ‘only read this book after sunset’ challenge ticked off too!
It was OK, but it didn’t properly hook me at any point. Like, you know when you’re properly into a book and you kind of forget that you’re looking at pages? When you’re totally engrossed? That didn’t happen. It was good, though. I got quite freaked out reading it in the middle of the night.
I also started The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time this morning, by Mark Haddon. When I was at school, there was a point when it felt like everyone around me was reading this book. I was quite resistant to hype in those days, so I never picked it up, but I’ve always felt like I must be missing out because it’s generally considered by everyone who’s read it to be an all-round amazing book.
I think I can probably get this book finished tonight. I don’t think it’s likely that I’ll read all seven books this week, but I’m happy with five (assuming I get there!) especially considering how little I was reading before BookTubeAThon.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is extremely well-written and the protagonist has a very clear, sympathetic voice. I’m yet to see what it was that rocketed this book to fame, but then I’m not very far into it.
I probably won’t do a diary entry tomorrow, as I have lots of people turning up throughout the day (we’re having our flatwarming – well, more of a flat defrosting, since we’ve been living there so long) but I’ll definitely try to do a wrap-up of this week on Sunday. I’ll still attempt to read another two books before then, but I have a feeling that alcohol will probably take priority over reading tomorrow…
