- Have fun! (My favourite rule!)
1. Flowers: Look on your bookshelves. What is the most beautiful book both inside and out?
I have some gorgeous books, but which ones are beautiful inside as well? I guess I’ll go with Wonder by R. J. Palacio. I love the bright blue of this cover and the message of the book is that it’s what’s on the inside that counts.
2. Grass: What is a book that you find that others like way more than you do?
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I just don’t get it! Why do people love it so much? I mean, like, it’s okay…
That was not meant to be a reference.
3. Rain: What’s a great book that lifts your spirits when you’re down?
To Kill a Mockingbird is my go-to when I want a simple, heartwarming read.
4. Dew: What’s a book that made you feel alive?
Probably The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. My heart was beating really fast when I finished it – such a fast-paced read.
5. Storms: What’s a book that you found unpredictable?
Couldn’t have told you what was going to happen in We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler. Took me completely by surprise.
6. Rainbow: What was a book that you struggled with, only to be happy that you read it in the end?
My answer to this question is always The Casual Vacancy by J. K. Rowling. Honestly, I know it’s hard to get through the first 100 pages, but please keep reading. It’s so so good.
7. Chilly Weather: What’s a book that you couldn’t finish or didn’t enjoy?
Books I couldn’t finish – Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. I do still intend on finishing them all at some point, but I don’t think I’ll ever get around to finishing Oliver Twist because I just find it so dull. I also didn’t finish Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, which I was supposed to read at uni but OMG YAWN.
Books I didn’t enjoy – Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov (I forced my way through this one just so I could have an opinion on it – I’m a book poser), and 2nd Chance by James Patterson. I really enjoyed 1st to Die but think he should have stopped there.
8. Warm Weather: What’s a book that you loved and wanted more of?
Harry Potter is the obvious answer for this, along with Percy Jackson, although I think we’ve probably had too many sequels/spin-offs/rip-offs of that series now. At first, I really wanted a sequel to Wonder as well, but then I found that there are a couple of short stories about Auggie (Auggie and Me) and I actually decided not to read them in the end because I felt it would taint my enjoyment of Wonder.
9. Green: What’s a book that you haven’t read yet, but really want to?
So many! Monsters of Men and More Than This by Patrick Ness, The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan (yeah, I’m still reading the spin-offs), The Maze Runner by James Dashner, Cinder by Marissa Meyer…
10. Pink: What’s a book in which you felt a strong connection to the characters?
Probably Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. Everyone goes on about Fangirl, and I love it too, but I think Rowell excelled herself with Attachments and the characters feel so much more real. I need to re-read!
11. Purple: What’s a book that when you read it, you feel safe?
Any of my all-time favourites would answer this question: To Kill a Mockingbird, One Day by David Nicholls, Harry Potter.
12. Orange: What book do you feel is intelligently written?
Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Another one I need to reread. Loved the film and loved the book too. It also has some interesting facts about sloths at the beginning!
13. Yellow: What book puts a smile on your face?
Well, lots of books make me happy, but I guess one that left me with a smile on my face was Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend by Matthew Green.

Thanks for the tag! I enjoyed reading your answers, and I felt exactly the same way when I finished The Knife of Never Letting Go! I read the whole series this month and loved them so much. My emotions were all over the place. I hope you enjoy Monsters of Men – it was a huge book, but so worth it. And I also want to read More Than This – I’ve got a copy on my shelf and hoping to pick it up next month 🙂

I would definitely like to read more of his work too! I recently read the The Rest of Us Just Live Here but wasn’t too fussed, but I’m hoping that was just a one-off x

I wasn’t a big fan of The Rest of Us Just Live Here either – I think a lot of people who love his books felt it wasn’t his best, so I’m also hoping it was just a one off. 🙂 x

I’m sure it was. I’m not really sure what he was trying to accomplish with that book lol. Reading More Than This next x

Me either! I kind of thought he was trying to show that having a normal life can be just as exciting as having crazy fantasy adventures, but if that was the case I needed way more to happen plotwise. I think I’m going to read More Than This next month 🙂 Look forward to seeing what you think! x

Yeah I think he just made them too normal – like whenever the end-of-the-world stuff happened it felt like we’d jumped genres and I’d be really baffled.

Please do! The first hundred pages are really slow, but once you get past them the story is wonderful. Xx

I’m definitely still reading all the Percy spin-offs too. And I honestly don’t mind at all that Rick keeps writing them, I’ve loved everything so far. x

I think I’m falling out of love 😔 I just reread the first 4 Heroes of Olympus books but can’t get into the last one at all. But I need to read it before Trials of Apollo comes out! X

I might give The Casual Vacancy another try, but I really struggled the first time and did not reach the 70th page.

Page 100 is where it finally hit me how good it was. I wouldn’t have got that far if it hadn’t been written by J K Rowling! Please do give it another go 😃

haha love the “okay” “reference”- I also don’t get it, so I’m with you on that. Gosh Lolita has a record for me- being the book I *literally* threw across the room the most while reading it- that book is so disturbing and I have no idea why the author wrote it in the first place Great post and thanks so much for the tag!
