So I’m not allowed to buy books.
This is a rule I’ve imposed on myself since I realised I have more books on my shelves that I haven’t read than ones I have. That is a strong suggestion that I probably don’t need any more books.
But I WANT more books!!!
So, to give myself something to look forward to, I’ve made a list of the top books I want to buy once I’ve read a few that I already own.
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
I’ve read the first chapter and I like what I see. I’ve not heard one bad word about this book, set in a poverty-stricken future where everyone takes refuge in a virtual reality. I’m dying to buy it.
Edit: I bought it.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Again, I’ve heard so many good things about this book and I really want to give this series a go. I enjoy fairytale retellings and the premise of this one is really interesting: Cinder(ella) is a cyborg!
Because You’ll Never Meet Me by Leah Thomas
This is a recent discovery of mine, about penpals who would literally kill each other if they met. One of them has fits set off by contact with electricity, and the other is kept alive by his electronic pacemaker.
The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman
This is an illustrated retelling of Sleeping Beauty. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by Neil Gaiman and am trying to find more great illustrated books so am sure I’ll love this one.
Faery Tales by Carol Ann Duffy
Carol Ann Duffy was one of my favourite poets that I studied at school. She has such an interesting writing style. I’m really intrigued to see what her fairytale retellings (bit of a theme here) are like.
So once I’ve read a few more of the books I actually own, I’ll be buying these 5. Yaaaaaay!
